Lucky Dip Art: Cactus Towers

oplus_1056

This set of prints came about thanks to a conversation with a friend. They had just been to a set of talks looking at how we could not only build better cities but also build communities that not only have less impact on the environment but are beneficial to the environment.

Is it a cactus or a tower block reaching into the sky? I’m not sure. My mind played with the idea of a green building growing. The background plays between the smoggy yet majestic sunsets of Delhi and the harsh blocky grime of UK house estates.

The process of creating these was a lot of fun. The first few layers of the background were done live at Central Flea whilst demoing Gelli printing. I used a range of what I call ‘sunset colour’. Each colour had its defined area. Looking at them the next day everything was a bit vibrant and needed to be brought together. So I played with adding a very light pale brown unevenly over the top. This seemed to bring down the vibrance and pull everything together. The Cactus Tower was a printing block made from Lego Dots.
